Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, accompanied by Mrs Balakrishnan, is visiting Brunei Darussalam from 13 to 15 August 2014 as the Singapore Government’s representative to the 68th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 14 August 2014.
Minister Balakrishnan and Mrs Balakrishnan had a joint audience with His Majesty and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha. Minister Balakrishnan conveyed birthday greetings from Singapore’s leaders to His Majesty, and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and further opportunities to strengthen the relationship between Singapore and Brunei.
In addition, Minister Balakrishnan attended the Royal Guard of Honour Ceremony and the Investiture Ceremony earlier today, where several state awards were conferred. Among the recipients was Singaporean Senior Lieutenant Colonel Meyyappan Nadarajan Thevar, who was awarded the Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa Darjah Ketiga in recognition of his contributions to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Command and Staff College. Minister Balakrishnan and Mrs Balakrishnan will also attend the Royal Banquet this evening.
