MFA Press Statement: Visit of President, International Committee of the Red Cross, Dr Peter Maurer, 19 to 20 November 2013

President, International Committee of the Red Cross, Dr Peter Maurer, will visit Singapore from 19 to 20 November 2013 at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam. Dr Maurer is visiting Singapore as a guest under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Organisations Distinguished Visitors Programme (IODVP). The objective of the IODVP is to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between Singapore and International Organisations.

During his visit, Dr Maurer will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He will also have meetings with Mr Shanmugam and Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing. In addition, he will be hosted to lunch by Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu. Dr Maurer will also deliver a public lecture entitled “Global Humanitarian Action Today: The Red Cross Perspective”, jointly organised by the Singapore Red Cross Society, the Centre for International Law and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the invitation of the Singapore Red Cross Society, Dr Maurer will also be visiting the Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled and the Singapore Red Cross Headquarters where he will have an interactive dialogue session with Red Cross Council members, youth leaders and volunteers. He will also be hosted to dinner by Chairman of the Singapore Red Cross Society and Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Switzerland Tee Tua Ba.
