President, International Committee of the Red Cross, Dr Peter Maurer, met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam; Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu; and Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing on 19 November 2013.
Dr Maurer had good discussions with our leaders on regional and international developments. Our leaders expressed admiration for the work of the ICRC in delivering humanitarian aid to those in need, particularly in conflict zones. In addition, they discussed ways in which Singapore and the ICRC’s cooperation could be enhanced.
Dr Maurer will deliver a public lecture entitled “Global Humanitarian Action Today: The Red Cross Perspective”, jointly organised by the Singapore Red Cross Society, the Centre for International Law and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 20 November 2013.
