The Government has appointed Mr Gerard Ho Wei Hong as the next Singapore Permanent Representative to ASEAN in Jakarta and Mr Lee Chong Hock as the next Singapore Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Mr Ho was Ambassador to the Republic of Philippines from 2019 to 2023. Prior to this, he was Director-General of the ASEAN Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2019.
Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1997, Mr Ho has served in various capacities on issues related to International Organisations and Southeast Asia. Mr Ho has also served as First Secretary (Political) in the Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2000 to 2003, First Secretary (Political) in the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur from 2004 to 2007, and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta from 2010 to 2014.
Mr Ho graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the National University of Singapore in 1997. He subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University, United States of America, in 2009.
Mr Ho was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2019 and the Long Service Medal in 2020. He was also awarded the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Datu (Grand Cross) by the Philippines government in 2023.
Mr Lee was Director-General of the Europe Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2023. Prior to this, he was the Director-General of the Consular Directorate from 2016 to 2020.
Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003, Mr Lee has served in various capacities on issues related to Americas and Southeast Asia. Mr Lee has also served as First Secretary (Political) in the Singapore Embassy in Berlin from 2005 to 2007 and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from 2012 to 2016. He was seconded to the Public Service Division, Prime Minister’s Officer as Senior Assistant Director (Development) from 2007 to 2010.
Mr Lee graduated with a Master of Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, in 2001. He subsequently obtained a Master of Arts in Political Science from Columbia University, United States of America, in 2012.
Mr Lee was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2020. He is married with four children.
