Mr John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region called on and was hosted to lunch by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today.
Prime Minister Lee and Chief Executive Lee reaffirmed the close and longstanding relations between Singapore and Hong Kong. Both leaders agreed that the two cities faced similar challenges as global cities in their respective regions, and discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation, which spanned areas such as trade and investment, arts and culture, innovation and research. They welcomed the resumption of exchanges between the Singapore and Hong Kong civil services following the COVID-19 pandemic, including through the Permanent Secretaries Exchange Programme. Prime Minister Lee expressed confidence in Hong Kong’s continued development and prosperity under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework.
Chief Executive Lee was also hosted to breakfast by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong this morning. Deputy Prime Minister Wong and Chief Executive Lee affirmed the warm and friendly ties between Singapore and Hong Kong, and exchanged views on cooperation across a wide range of areas, both bilaterally and in multilateral fora. As international financial centres, Singapore and Hong Kong enjoy close cooperation on fintech, information sharing, as well as supervisory and regulatory matters. With Singapore and Hong Kong playing complementary roles in their respective regions, both sides stand to benefit from further deepening collaboration, including in Southeast Asia and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
