Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong is in Negara Brunei Darussalam with a delegation of Singapore political office-holders for the 9th Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP).
Earlier today, DPM Wong and the delegation had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam. DPM Wong thanked His Majesty for his unwavering support for the bilateral relationship over the decades. With next year marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations, DPM Wong and His Majesty also reaffirmed the shared commitment of both sides to elevate the relationship to greater heights.
DPM Wong, Mrs Wong, and the delegation also had an audience with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Negara Brunei Darussalam, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah. DPM Wong and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Billah underscored the excellent state of bilateral ties and agreed to deepen mutual exchanges and cooperation in emerging areas of shared interest. They also emphasised the continued importance of the YLP platform in strengthening relations between the younger generation of leaders of both countries. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Billah subsequently hosted lunch for the delegation.
DPM Wong, Mrs Wong, and the delegation were hosted to a welcome dinner by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Halbi Yussof and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Amin Liew. The Ministers had a wide-ranging discussion on regional and global developments, and exchanged views on how Singapore and Brunei can work even closer together against the backdrop of an increasingly uncertain and turbulent world.
