Official Visit of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, 18 to 19 June 2024

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, is on an Official Visit to Singapore from 18 to 19 June 2024. Prime Minister Hun Manet received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this afternoon and called on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Prime Minister Hun Manet also had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, who hosted an official dinner in honour of Prime Minister Hun Manet. Prime Minister Hun Manet had a new orchid hybrid, Vanchoanthe Hun Manet, named in his honour.
 
President Tharman and Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the warm and longstanding ties between Singapore and Cambodia, as both countries look towards the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year. They discussed strengthening cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, financial transparency, and food and water security.
 
Prime Minister Wong and Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the growing economic ties between Singapore and Cambodia. Both leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in new and emerging fields such as renewable energy and carbon credits. Both Prime Ministers affirmed the good progress made since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Carbon Credits Cooperation aligned to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in April 2023, and looked forward to the signing of the legally binding Implementation Agreement as soon as feasible. Both Prime Ministers also welcomed the establishment of the Lao PDR-Cambodia-Singapore Working Group on Cross-Border Electricity Trading, which seeks to catalyse the development of projects to drive the ASEAN Power Grid. Prime Minister Wong also expressed Singapore’s continued support for Cambodia’s human resource development and capacity building.
 
The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments. They emphasised the importance of upholding ASEAN Centrality and unity, deepening regional economic integration, and building an open and inclusive regional architecture.
 
The two Prime Ministers witnessed the ceremonial exchange of the MOU on Cooperation on Digital Government between the Singapore Ministry of Communications and Information and the Cambodian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
 
In conjunction with Prime Minister Hun Manet’s visit, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the National Bank of Cambodia announced the start of the Financial Transparency Corridor Initiative. This initiative aims to establish supporting digital infrastructure to facilitate trade and cross-border financial services for Small and Medium Enterprises in Singapore and Cambodia.
 
Prime Minister Hun Manet will receive a call by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong tomorrow. Prime Minister Hun Manet will also be the Guest-of-Honour at the Cambodia-Singapore Business Forum and will visit Nanyang Polytechnic and Keppel Infrastructure@Changi.
 
Prime Minister Hun Manet will depart Singapore tomorrow.
