Hurricane Florence has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm with winds of around 130 mph. According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the storm is likely to strengthen to 150 mph just before landfall somewhere on the Southeast US coast later this week. Life-threatening storm surges, freshwater flooding and damaging hurricane-force winds are likely along potions of the coast of South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
In addition to South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, a state of emergency has been declared in Maryland. South Carolina Governor has ordered the mandatory evacuation of eight counties along South Carolina’s coast. A mandatory evaluation order is also in place for North Carolina’s Dare County.
