Visit of Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean to Kazakhstan, 13 to 15 October 2019

Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean is in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan from 13 to 15 October 2019 for a working visit.

 

SM Teo called on President Kassym-Jomat Tokayev and Prime Minister Askar Mamin this afternoon. The leaders reaffirmed the warm ties between Singapore and Kazakhstan, and welcomed the recent signing of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) - Singapore Free Trade Agreement, which will strengthen trade and investment links between Singapore, Kazakhstan and the EAEU. They looked forward to the early conclusion of the Kazakhstan-Singapore Services and Investment Agreement currently under negotiation, to bring greater benefits to the peoples and businesses of both countries. 

 

The leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as civil service transformation and governance; digital economy and financial technology; legal and judicial exchanges; and people-to-people exchanges.

 

SM Teo met and was hosted to dinner by Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre Kairat Kelimbetov. They discussed ways to strengthen financial and economic cooperation between both countries. SM Teo also met private sector representatives over lunch. 

 

SM Teo received a briefing on regional developments and the security situation in Central Asia during his meeting with First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Azamat Abdymomunov.

 

SM Teo is accompanied by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of Transport Dr Janil Puthucheary; Members of Parliament Mr Saktiandi Supaat and Ms Jessica Tan; and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Enterprise Singapore.
