Travel Notice for Ecuador
17 October 2024
In view of the increase in violence, crimes, and presence of organised criminal groups, the Government of Ecuador declared a 60-day state of emergency on 3 October 2024 in the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena, and El Oro, as well as Distrito Metropolitano de Quito in Pichincha and Camilo Ponce Enríquez in Azuay. In addition to the state of emergency, daily curfews from 10pm to 5am have also been imposed in affected areas.
In view of the unstable security situation, MFA advises Singaporeans to exercise a high degree of caution while in Ecuador, and to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, including monitoring the local news and heeding the instructions of local authorities. While the curfew is in effect, Singaporeans must stay indoors. Singaporeans should avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place and leave as soon as possible for safer areas, where necessary. Travellers should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance and medical insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.
Singaporeans are strongly encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg so that we may contact you should the need arise. Those in need of consular assistance may contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duty Office (24-hours) at:
