"This morning, the Malaysian side gave us some information on the questions we posed to them. But they have not provided adequate clarification, particularly on how their proposed formula on the price of current raw water was consistent with the provisions of the existing Water Agreements and why they had not lost their right of review.
Singapore is sincere about wanting to make progress on the water issue. We are ready to continue to engage them in discussion. But the ball is now in Malaysia's court. They have to show us they are sincere about discussing all aspects of the water issue and come back to us with serious proposals. For example, on future water, they repeated their position that discussions on a new Water Agreement should begin two years before the expiry of the 1962 Agreement ie 2059. This cannot be serious or realistic."
