The Government has appointed Mr Choo Chiau Beng as Singapore's next Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, and Mr Quek Poh Huat as Singapore's next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden. They will be resident in Singapore.
Mr Choo Chiau Beng is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Keppel Offshore & Marine, and Executive Director of Keppel Corporation. He is also Chairman of Singapore Petroleum, Singapore Refining and SMRT.
Mr Quek Poh Huat is currently Executive Director of Singapore Power. He was previously with the Ministry of Defence, Singapore Aerospace, Singapore Institute of Standards & Industrial Research, Singapore Technologies Holdings, and Temasek Holdings. He has served as director in several public companies and statutory boards. He was awarded the Public Service Star in 1994.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
Mr Quek Poh Huat is currently Executive Director of Singapore Power Ltd.
Mr Quek was born in Singapore on 7 August 1946. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Leeds, UK in 1964. He obtained his Master of Science (Management) from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, USA in 1974.
Mr Quek was with the Ministry of Defence between 1974 and 1981. He became General Manager of Singapore Aerospace Ltd from 1981 to 1984. He was Chairman of the Singapore Institute of Standards & Industrial Research (1985-1994). He was also President of Singapore Aerospace Ltd (1983-1995), Singapore Technologies Holdings Pte Ltd (1993-1995) and Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd (1995 -2003). He is a serving director in several public companies.
Mr Quek was awarded the Public Service Star in 1994.
Mr Quek is married to Mdm Patricia Sim Peck Choo and they have two daughters.

Mr Choo is Chairman of Singapore Petroleum Company Ltd, Singapore Refining Company Ltd and SMRT Corporation Ltd. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Keppel Land Ltd, k1 Ventures Ltd, EDB Investments (Pte) Ltd and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. He was Chairman of Ngee Ann Polytechnic Council from April 1995 to
December 2003. He has also served as a Singapore representative on APEC Business Advisory Council.
Mr Choo is married to Mdm Eileen Lim Eang Ling and they have a son.
