MFA Press Statement - MOS Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's participation in UNCTAD XI, Brazil, 13-18 June 2004

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry and National Development, will lead the Singapore delegation to the Eleventh Session of the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD XI), which will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 13 to 18 June 2004.

Dr Balakrishnan will address the conference on 15 June 2004. He will also be a panelist at the Interactive Thematic Session entitled "Assuring Development Gains from International Trading System and Trade Negotiations" on 16 June 2004.

UNCTAD XI, which also marks the 40th Anniversary of UNCTAD, will focus on trade and development issues, including strategies for more coherence between national development strategies and global economic processes in an increasingly globalised and competitive environment.
