MFA Press Statement: President S R Nathan's Condolence Messages to Leaders of Countries Affected by The Indian Ocean Tsunami

President S R Nathan has sent letters of condolences to the Heads of State of the countries affected by the earthquake off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia and the tsunami that followed. The letters were sent to Indonesian President His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Thai King His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, His Majesty Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail The Yang di-Pertuan Agong XII of Malaysia, Sri Lankan President Her Excellency Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Indian President His Excellency Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, President of the Maldives His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and Bangladeshi President His Excellency Dr Iajuddin Ahmed.

In his letters, President Nathan expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims of the disaster and offered such means of assistance as is possible towards the relief and rescue efforts.
