MFA Press Statement: Regional Ministerial Meeting on Millennium Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific: The Way Forward 2015, 3-5 August 2005, Jakarta, Indonesia

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, will attend the Regional Ministerial Meeting on Millennium Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific: The Way Forward 2015 in Jakarta from 3-5 August 2005. The meeting, organised by Indonesia with the support of UN agencies, will discuss the progress and the way forward for Asia and the Pacific in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a set of 8 development goals that were endorsed at the 55th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2000. These development goals include, inter alia, the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, the achievement of universal primary education, and the reduction of HIV/AIDS and other diseases. The meeting will feed into the review of the MDGs at the upcoming 60th UNGA in New York in September 2005.
