MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council of the People's Republic of China,19-21 September 2005

At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council of the People's Republic of China will lead a delegation of ministers and senior officials to Singapore from 19 to 21 September 2005 to attend the 2nd Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) Meeting between Singapore and China. The JCBC was established in November 2003 by then PM Goh Chok Tong and Premier Wen Jiabao to provide an overarching framework to oversee the growing areas of bilateral cooperation. The first JCBC meeting, co-chaired by then DPM Lee Hsien Loong and Vice Premier Wu Yi, was held in China in May 2004.

While in Singapore, Wu Yi is scheduled to call on President S R Nathan, PM Lee Hsien Loong and SM Goh Chok Tong. DPM Wong Kan Seng will host a welcome dinner in her honour on 19 September 2005.
