MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Honorary Consul-General in Madrid, Spain

The Government of the Republic of Singapore, with the agreement of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, has appointed Dr Alfonso Vegara as Singapore's Honorary Consul-General in Madrid, Spain.

Dr Vegara, 50, is an architect-planner, and has other degrees in economics and sociology. He obtained his doctorate in architecture and urban planning from the University of Navarre in 1979.

Dr Vegara is President of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISoCaRP). He is currently the President of the Madrid-based Taller de Ideas Group and also President of Fundación Metrópoli, a foundation dedicated to studying, developing and sharing urban innovations.

Dr Vegara is married with two children.
