MFA Press Statement : Appointment of Singapore's Ambassador to The State of Israel, Singapore's Ambassador to The State of Kuwait and Singapore's Ambassador to The State of Qatar

The Government has appointed Lieutenant General (Retired) Winston Choo Wee Leong as Singapore's next Ambassador to the State of Israel and Mr Wong Kwok Pun as Singapore's next Ambassador to the State of Kuwait and the State of Qatar. They will be resident in Singapore.

Lieutenant General (Retired) Winston Choo Wee Leong is currently Singapore's High Commissioner to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. He joined the then Singapore Military Forces in 1959 and after Singapore became independent in 1965, he served in various appointments in the Singapore Armed Forces, reaching the pinnacle of the military service when he became the Chief of the General Staff in 1974 and the Chief of Defence Force in 1990. He has received various distinguished awards from both Singapore and foreign countries throughout his 33 years of military service. He was Singapore's High Commissioner to Australia and Fiji from 1994 to 1997 and Singapore's High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa from 2001 to 2005.

Mr Wong Kwok Pun is currently Director (Special Duties) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Singapore Foreign Service in 1975 and was Director of the ASEAN Directorate from 1993 to 1994. He was Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand from 1995 to 1998 and High Commissioner to the Republic of India from 1999 to 2002. Between 2002 and 2005, he was Director of Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate IV in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
