In response to media queries on the floods in Thailand, the MFA Spokesman commented:
"Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has telephoned Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to convey his condolences to the families of the victims of the recent floods in Northern Thailand and their loved ones.
The Singapore Government will be providing humanitarian assistance, in the form of medical supplies, blankets and tents worth US$50,000, to Thailand. In addition, three SAF Chinook helicopters, which were scheduled to train in Thailand during this period, have been deployed to Phitsanulok to assist in the ongoing humanitarian relief efforts. We are working closely with the Thai authorities to deploy these helicopters to assist in search and rescue missions, casualty evacuation, as well as the transportation of humanitarian aid, equipment and personnel."
