Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Foreign Minister Paek Nam-sun called on the President of Singapore Mr S R Nathan at the Istana on 2 August 2006. They reviewed the longstanding bilateral relations between their two countries and exchanged views on regional developments. Minister Paek gave an update on developments in the DPRK and explained his government's position vis-a-vis the Six-Party Talks. Minister Paek also reaffirmed Pyongyang's commitment to the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. President Nathan noted that the issue should be resolved through peaceful means and dialogue. President Nathan also urged the DPRK to give due consideration to the views of other countries, especially those which have an interest in the preservation of peace and stability in the region.
