Singapore is deeply concerned by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) announcement that it had conducted a nuclear test. We are seeking confirmation from other international sources. If confirmed, such a rash and dangerously provocative act will have grave consequences that could threaten to destabilise the entire region. The DPRK must bear the consequences of its actions.
The DPRK should return to the Six-Party Talks without preconditions. Peaceful dialogue is the only way to secure the DPRK's security and economic interests. Singapore will be making its views known to the DPRK through its Ambassador in Singapore.
