MFA Press Statement: State Visit of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom of the Republic of Maldives, 18 - 20 January 2007

The President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is in Singapore for a State Visit from 18 to 20 January 2007 at the invitation of President S R Nathan. This is President Gayoom's second State Visit to Singapore. His first State Visit was in 1981.

President Gayoom will be accompanied by First Lady Madam Nasreena M A Gayoom, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Shaheed, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Jaleel, Minister of Health Ilyas Ibrahim and senior officials.

During the visit, President Gayoom will call on President S R Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and meet other ministers. President and Mrs Nathan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Gayoom and the First Lady. In addition, President Gayoom will visit the Malay Heritage Centre and attend a business symposium on investment opportunities in Maldives organised by the Maldivian Government Trade Centre in Singapore with IE Singapore's support.
