MFA Press Statement: Official Visit by Foreign Minister George Yeo to Israel and the Palestinian Territories, 28 April - 2 May 2007

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will be making an official visit to the State of Israel from 28 to 30 April 2007 at the invitation of Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni. Minister Yeo is expected to call on Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and meet with Vice Premier and Minister for the Development of the Negev and Galillee, Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour Eliyahu Yishai and Minister of National Infrastructure BG (Retired) Benjamin Ben-Eliezer. Minister Yeo and Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Livni will sign an Agreement on Cooperation in the Fields of Culture, Education and Science.

After Israel, Minister Yeo will visit the Palestinian National Authority's headquarters in Ramallah on 1 May 2007 to call on President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas and Deputy Prime Minister Azzam al-Ahmad, and meet with Foreign Minister Dr Ziad Abu-Amr. Dr Abu-Amr will host Minister Yeo to lunch.

Minister Yeo will be accompanied by Mrs Jennifer Yeo, Non-Resident Ambassador to Israel, Lieutenant General (Retired) Winston Choo and MFA officials. In conjunction with this visit, IE Singapore will be organising a business mission comprising 10 companies from the precision engineering, InfoComm technology and communications sectors. Minister Yeo will also address a networking dinner organized in Tel Aviv for Singapore and Israeli companies on 1 May 2007.
