Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo had a series of meetings on Monday 21 May 2007 with Libyan leaders including Dr Ali Abdelaziz Al-Isawi, Secretary for Economy, Trade and Investment, Dr Mohamed Aboujela Al-Mabrouk, Secretary for Transportation, Dr Mahmoud Jebreil, Secretary General of the National Planning Council and Director General of the Libyan Economic Development Board and Dr Shukri Ghanem, Chairman of the National Oil Company.
Minister Yeo discussed areas of bilateral cooperation at these meetings. Minister Yeo and Secretary Al-Isawi agreed to proceed with negotiations for agreements on Investment Guarantees and Avoidance of Double Taxation as well as a general legal framework for economic cooperation. Cooperation in developing and managing transport infrastructure projects was also discussed.
Minister Yeo was also hosted to dinner by Saif Al-Islam Al-Ghaddafi, President of the Ghaddafi International Foundation for Charities.
Minister Yeo departs for Yemen today.
