MFA Press Statement: Official visit of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Brunei Darussalam, 27 – 28 June 2007

Prime Minister and Mrs Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to Brunei Darussalam from 27 to 28 June 2007 at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Prime Minister and Mrs Lee will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, Deputy Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Minister for Trade & Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Manpower Ng Eng Hen, Member of Parliament (Marine Parade) Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, and senior officials.

Prime Minister Lee will have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and the two leaders will jointly launch the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Singapore-Brunei Currency Interchangeability Agreement. The Currency Interchangeability Agreement, which took effect from 12 June 1967, underpins the longstanding and extensive bilateral relations and cooperation between Singapore and Brunei. Prime Minister and Mrs Lee will also attend a banquet hosted by His Majesty Sultan Hassanal and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha.
