"Congratulations on your appointment as Prime Minister.
Singapore and Britain share deep historic ties and diverse mutual interests. We have worked closely together in such areas like counter-terrorism, science and research, and climate change. A regular exchange of high-level visits helps sustain the momentum in our bilateral relations. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the co-operation between our two countries.
Singapore is preparing to take over the chairmanship of ASEAN and host the special ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in November this year, back-to-back with the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS). I remember our fruitful discussions when you were last in Singapore for the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for the Commemorative Summit."
