The Government has appointed Mr Zulkifli Baharudin as Singapore's first Ambassador to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and Mr Philip Eng Heng Nee as Singapore's High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus. They will be resident in Singapore. |

Mr Zulkifli Baharudin is currently the Managing Director of Global Business Integrators Pte Ltd. He is also the Director and shareholder of logistics companies in Vietnam and Indonesia, and the Director of Mentor Media Ltd and Communication Design International. He was a Nominated Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2001. He was also a Chairman of Mercy Relief, a non-profit and humanitarian organization, from September 2003 to May 2007. Mr Eng is currently Singapore's Non-resident Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic (Greece). Mr Zulkifli Baharudin was born on 19 September 1959 in Singapore. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Estate Management) from the National University of Singapore in 1984. Mr Zulkifli Baharudin is also the Director and shareholder of logistics companies in Vietnam and Indonesia. He also held many other senior management positions, including Vice-President of Logistics (Asia-Pacific) of Circle International and Eagle Global Logistics. He is also a Director of Mentor Media Ltd and Communication Design International. He is currently an Authority Member and Audit Committee Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. He had served on various Government Boards, such as Singapore Sports Council, Temasek Polytechnic and Network Indonesia. He was a Nominated Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2001. He was appointed on 1 March 2005. He is Non-Executive Chairman of mDR Limited, Director of Singapore Computer Systems Limited, Frasers Centrepoint Asset Management Ltd, Chinese Development Assistance Council, President Commissioner of PT SCS Astra Graphia Technologies and Commissioner of PT Adira Dinamika Multi Finance Tbk, Indonesia. He is also the Vice-Chairman of Network Indonesia. Mr Eng was appointed as Singapore's Non-resident Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic (Greece) since October 2006, and was Singapore's Non-resident High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria from July 2000 to December 2006. Born in Singapore on 24 August 1946, Mr Eng received his primary and secondary education in Singapore during the tumultuous years of post-World War II. He graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy in 1969. Upon graduation, he worked in a Chartered Accountant firm in Australia while studying to qualify as a Chartered Accountant, which he obtained in 1971. Mr Eng began his career in Singapore with Price Waterhouse Singapore from 1972 to 1976. He was the Finance Director of Rank O'Connors from 1976 to 1980 and Company Secretary of Rheem Hume Industries from 1980 to 1982. He joined Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited in 1982 and was appointed Company Secretary in 1983. In 1985 he assumed responsibilities for the motor operations of the Jardine Cycle & Carriage Group and in 1996 he was appointed Group Managing Director of Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited with overall responsibility for the Group's businesses throughout the Asia Pacific region. During his tenure, Mr Eng diversified the Group's motor business to Australia and New Zealand where the markets achieved leadership positions in the respective market segments, and he also expanded the Group's property business to Malaysia. In 2000, he was responsible for Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited's successful and largest investment ever in PT Astra International Tbk, one of Indonesia's conglomerates and the largest independent automotive group in Southeast Asia. Mr Eng retired as Group Managing Director of Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited on 28 February 2005. He continues to provide services to the Group motor operations on a consultancy basis.
