At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, Vice Premier Wu Yi of the State Council of the People's Republic of China will lead a delegation of ministers and senior officials to Singapore from 9-12 July 2007. She will co-chair the 9th Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Joint Steering Council (JSC) and the 4th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meetings with DPM Wong Kan Seng on 10 and 11 July respectively.
The JSC meeting will review the progress of the SIP and chart new directions to promote its further growth. The JCBC meeting will take stock, as well as discuss new areas of cooperation between the two countries, including the proposed "Eco-City" first raised during Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong's visit to China in April 2007. Several MOUs on bilateral cooperation in areas such as human resource development, health, environmental and water resources will also be signed after the JCBC.
While in Singapore, Madam Wu Yi will separately call on PM Lee Hsien Loong, SM Goh Chok Tong and MM Lee Kuan Yew. PM will host a lunch while DPM Wong Kan Seng will host a welcome dinner in her honour on 10 July 2007. The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also host a Gala Lunch in honour of Madam Wu Yi for her contributions to the promotion of economic relations between Singapore and China on 11 July. SM will be the Special Guest for the occasion.
