The Government has appointed Mr Tan York Chor as Singapore's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva. He will assume post on 25 November 2007.

Mr Tan joined the Singapore Civil Service in 1985 and had worked in various capacities in the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as Counsellor in the Singapore High Commission in Canberra from 1997 to 1999 and as Deputy Permanent Representative in the Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 2002 to 2005. At the Ministry HQ, he was the Director of Europe Directorate (March 2006 to May 2007) and concurrently Director of International Economics (March to October 2006), and Director of International Organisations (April 2007 to present).

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Mr Tan York Chor is currently the Director/International Organisations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Born on 27 July 1958, Mr Tan graduated with a Diplome D'Ingenieur (Chemical Engineering Degree) from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie of Strasbourg, France in 1983.

Mr Tan joined the Singapore Civil Service in 1985 and had worked in various capacities in the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as First Secretary in the Singapore Embassy in Paris (1991 to 1993) and in Bangkok (1993 to 1994). He was Deputy Director/Europe (1995 to 1997), before being posted as Counsellor in the Singapore High Commission in Canberra (1997 to 1999). On his return to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, he was appointed Deputy Director/Other Southeast Asia (2000 to 2002) and thereafter Senior Deputy Director/Policy, Planning and Analysis Directorate II covering North America and Europe (2002). He was Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative in the Singapore Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (2002 to 2005). He was Director/Europe (March 2006 to May 2007) and concurrently Director/International Economics (March to October 2006), and has been Director/International Organisations (April 2007 to present).

Mr Tan is married to Mdm Lim Boon Siang and they have three daughters.
