Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo met Mr Christopher Hill, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on 1 October 2007.
Mr Hill gave Minister Yeo an update on the recent Six-Party Talks in Beijing. Minister Yeo and Mr Hill exchanged views on the current situation in Myanmar. They agreed that it was important to fully support Mr Ibrahim Gambari in his efforts to promote reconciliation in Myanmar. Minister Yeo informed Mr Hill that ASEAN welcomed President Bush's invitation to the ASEAN Leaders to visit Crawford, Texas, next year for the ASEAN-US Commemorative Summit and requested the US to propose a set of dates for the event so that he could coordinate the matter with his ASEAN colleagues.
