SMS Zainul Abidin Rasheed called on Israeli Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in Jerusalem on 22 October 2007. Both Ministers reaffirmed the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Israel and Singapore. They also discussed regional issues including the Middle East Peace Process. SMS Zainul reiterated Singapore's strong support for the vision of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. He expressed the hope that all sides would make a concerted effort to achieve a substantive outcome at the international meeting hosted by the US in the fall.
SMS Zainul also visited the Old City including the Western Wall and prayed at the Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest mosque. He laid a wreath at Rabin's Square in Tel Aviv which was erected in memory of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated in 1995. SMS Zainul also met with the Mayor of Tel Aviv Ron Huldai to exchange views on local development issues.
