President S R Nathan is making a State Visit to Maldives from 23-26 October 2007 at the invitation of Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. This is the first State Visit by a Singaporean Head of State to Maldives. This visit comes nine months after President Gayoom's State Visit to Singapore from 18-20 January 2007.
President Nathan's delegation includes Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education Dr Lily Neo, and senior officials. A business delegation led by Mr Chandra Das will also accompany the President.
During the visit, President Nathan will meet President Gayoom, who will host a State Dinner in honour of President Nathan. President Nathan will also attend the inauguration of the Ghaazee School on Hulhumalé Island. This is an integrated primary and secondary school which Singapore built as part of our post-tsunami reconstruction assistance for Maldives.
