Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will visit China and Japan from 25 to 27 October 2007 for informal consultations on Myanmar. Minister Yeo will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on 26 October in Beijing and Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Koumura on 27 October in Tokyo. Minister Yeo will exchange views with his counterparts on how regional countries can support a genuine process of peaceful reconciliation in Myanmar and support UN Secretary General's Special Advisor Mr Ibrahim Gambari in his mission as mediator. Myanmar will be an important item on the agenda during the East Asia Summit on 21 November in Singapore.
Minister Yeo will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
