Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Ms Noeleen Heyzer will make her first official visit to Singapore from 3-6 February 2008. Ms Heyzer is the first Singaporean woman in the UN system to hold the rank of Under-Secretary-General. Formerly the Executive Director of the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Ms Heyzer is now the head of the ESCAP, which has a current membership of 62 governments and serves as the regional development arm of the UN for the Asia-Pacific region.
During her visit in Singapore, Ms Heyzer will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports Yu-Foo Yee Shoon. She will also address a seminar at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
