Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zainul Abidin Rasheed will visit Rwanda, Angola and Cape Town, South Africa from 26 March to 5 April 2008. The regional tour is part of Singapore's ongoing engagement of African countries. SMS Zainul's visits to Rwanda and Angola are the first by a Singapore political office holder.
SMS Zainul will be in Kigali, Rwanda, from 26 to 28 March 2008. He is scheduled to meet President Paul Kagame, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Rosemary Museminari, Minister of Trade and Industry Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning James Musoni, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Charles Murigande and senior officials.
SMS Zainul will visit Luanda, Angola, from 29 March to 1 April 2008. He is scheduled to meet President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Deputy Prime Minister Aguinaldo Jaime, Minister of Commerce Joaquim Ekuma Muafumua, Minister of Energy and Water Jose Botelho de Vasconcelos, and senior officials.
In Cape Town, SMS Zainul is scheduled to meet Premier of Western Cape Provincial Government Ebrahim Rasool, Deputy Mayor of Cape Town Grant Haskin and local Muslim and business leaders.
SMS Zainul will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
