Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo called on the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi yesterday. Minister Yeo expressed appreciation for the support given by Al Azhar University for the Singaporean student community. Grand Sheikh Tantawi underscored the importance of promoting inter-faith dialogue and religious harmony. Minister Yeo noted that Egypt had always shown respect for religious diversity. Grand Sheikh Tantawi also expressed appreciation for the Singapore Government's firm position on the film "Fitna" by Dutch MP Geert Wilders. Minister Yeo also met with Egyptian Finance Minister Youssef Boustros Ghali who updated him on the progress of economic reforms in Egypt. They also had a useful exchange of views on economic developments in Asia and the Middle East.
