MFA Press Statement: Singapore Welcomes Confirmation of the United States Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs

Singapore, as Chair of ASEAN, welcomes the confirmation of Scot Marciel as the US Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs by the US Senate on 29 April 2008.

The US is the first Dialogue Partner of ASEAN to appoint an Ambassador to ASEAN. This reflects the strength of the ASEAN-US relationship and the commitment of the US to continue its engagement with ASEAN.

The position of the US Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs was initiated in 2006 by Senator Richard Lugar, a good friend of ASEAN.
