Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will visit Karimun from 7 to 8 June 2008. He will be accompanied by a group of 85 grassroots leaders from the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Division of the Aljunied GRC and their family members. The delegation will be hosted to lunch by Governor of Riau Islands Province (KEPRI) Dr Ismeth Abdullah and the Regent of Karimun Nurdin Basirun. They will also visit the industrial development zone on Karimun island. Karimun is an integral part of the Batam, Bintan and Karimun (BBK) Special Economic Zones initiative covered by the Framework Agreement on Economic Cooperation in BBK signed by Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang and then-Indonesian Coordinating Minister for the Economy Boediono in June 2006.
