Foreign Minister George Yeo led a delegation of 85 grassroots leaders and their family members on a visit to Karimun Island over the weekend on 7-8 June. On Sunday, they were briefed by KEPRI Governor Ismeth Abdullah and Karimun Bupati Nurdin Basirun on the Karimun Free Trade Zone and toured the Sembawang Shipyard, the site of the new Saipem Shipyard being constructed and the new Karimun Civic Centre. The Karimun FTZ is included under the framework of cooperation between Singapore and Batam-Bintan-Karimun Special Economic Zone.
On Sunday morning, Min George Yeo and delegation were hosted by the Karimun Yeo Clan Association at their new building. The Karimun Yeo Clan Association has a close relationship with the Singapore Yeo Clan Association.
