MFA Press Statement: 3rd East Asia Week, 24 July to 3 August 2008

Singapore is pleased to host the 3rd East Asia Week from 24 July to 3 August 2008. The 3rd East Asia Week will feature two activities - the Youth Artists Exchange Programme (24-27 July 2008) (Annex A) and the ASEAN Plus Three Youth Festival (28 July-3 August 2008) (Annex B) - for youth leaders and artists from the thirteen countries of the ASEAN Plus Three framework. The event will allow young people from the region to engage in active discussions on current issues, share ideas and best practices, express their creativity, develop greater appreciation and understanding of East Asia, as well as cultivate long-lasting friendships.

The ASEAN Plus Three process was inaugurated in 1997. It includes the 10 ASEAN member states, and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The East Asia Week was an initiative first mooted by the Republic of Korea. The first East Asia Week took place in the Republic of Korea and the second in Thailand last year.
