US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called on Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the Shangri-La Hotel on 23 July 2008. During the meeting, Minister Yeo and Secretary Rice reaffirmed the strong relationship between Singapore and the US. They also discussed a range of issues, including recent developments in Asia and ASEAN, and reaffirmed the importance of good ASEAN-US cooperation.
Minister Yeo and Secretary Rice welcomed Cambodia's and Thailand's commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Preah Vihear issue. They also discussed developments in Myanmar and the important mission of UNSG Special Advisor Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Secretary Rice is in Singapore from 22-24 July 2008 to attend meetings held in conjunction with the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, including the 15th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
