Joint Press Statement by MFA, MTI and MND: Visit of DPM Wong Kan Seng to the People's Republic of China, 2 - 6 September 2008

Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng will make an official visit to the People's Republic of China on 2 - 6 September 2008 at the invitation of Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan.

DPM Wong will visit Tianjin from 3 - 4 September. In Tianjin, he will co-chair the inaugural Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Joint Steering Council meeting with Vice Premier Wang Qishan on 3 September. The meeting will take stock of the progress and chart directions for the project. DPM Wong will also co-chair the 10th Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Joint Steering Council (JSC) and the 5th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meetings with Vice Premier Wang Qishan on 4 September. The SIP JSC and the JCBC meetings will review as well as explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries. In Tianjin, DPM Wong will meet Tianjin Party Secretary Zhang Gaoli, Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo and other municipal leaders as well as receive briefings on the Eco-City and the Tianjin Binhai New Area (TBNA).

DPM Wong will visit Beijing on 4 - 5 September where he is scheduled to meet Premier Wen Jiabao and, State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu.

DPM Wong will be accompanied by Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan, Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister (Prime Minister's Office) Lim Swee Say, Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan and senior officials.
