MFA Press Statement: Donation of Fertiliser to Myanmar in aid of its Post-Cyclone Nargis Recovery Efforts

On behalf of the Government of Singapore, the Singapore Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar, Mr Robert Chua, handed over 38,080 bags of fertiliser to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as part of Singapore's contributions to assist Myanmar in its post-Cyclone Nargis recovery efforts. The hand-over was witnessed by His Excellency Major-General Htay Oo, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, who was the Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony as well as members of the Tripartite Core Group comprising representatives from the Myanmar Government, ASEAN and the United Nations. The fertiliser will be distributed, with the assistance of the FAO, to farmers in designated townships in the Delta area to help them regain their livelihood in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis.
