Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who is in New York from 21 September to 1 October 2008 to attend the 63rd session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, had several engagements on 24 September 2008. He was hosted to breakfast by World Bank President Robert Zoellick. They discussed how the World Bank can help in Asia's development. Mr Zoellick was the former US Trade Representative with whom Minister Yeo, then as Minister for Trade and Industry, had negotiated the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement with.
Minister met with Bhutan Foreign Minister Ugyen Tshering. Minister Ugyen Tshering gave Minister Yeo a comprehensive briefing on the latest developments in Bhutan. Both sides expressed their common desire to work towards stronger bilateral relations.
Minister Yeo represented Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Special Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Minister Yeo also hosted a reception for member states of the Forum of Small States (FOSS), which Singapore chairs at the UN. The FOSS comprises member states of the UN with populations of up to 10 million.
