MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore's Permanent Representative to ASEAN in Jakarta

The Government has appointed Mr Lim Thuan Kuan as Singapore's first Permanent Representative to ASEAN with effect from January 2009.

Mr Lim joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984. He has served as Singapore's Ambassador to Vietnam since 4 November 2005. Prior to that, he was Director of the ASEAN Directorate in the Ministry's Headquarters from January 2004 to August 2005, Director of Directorate I (Southeast Asia) from February 2002 to January 2004 and Director of Directorate IV (South Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America) from January 2000 to April 2002. He has also served in the Singapore Embassies in Jakarta and Washington.

Mr Lim was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) and the Long Service Medal in 2007. In 2008, he was awarded the Long Service Award (25 years).

Mr Lim is married to Ms Patricia Teh. They have a daughter.
