MFA Spokesman's Comments on the situation in Gaza and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1860 (2009), 10 January 2009

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo hosted Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Dr Luís Amado to lunch on 9 February 2009. During the lunch, the two Ministers reaffirmed the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and Portugal and explored ways to advance bilateral relations. They also discussed international and regional issues, including the global economic crisis as well as developments in Asia and Europe.

Before the lunch, Minister Yeo and Minister Amado visited St Joseph Church (along Victoria Street) where the Portuguese Mission was founded in 1825.

 In response to media queries on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1860 (2009), the MFA Spokesman said:

"We welcome the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSC) 1860 of 8 January 2009. This is a very positive development. We urge all parties concerned to make every effort to implement the terms of the UNSC resolution expeditiously".
