MFA Spokesman's Comments on the case involving Dr Lalith Kotelawala, Chairman of Sri Lanka's Ceylinco Group and Singapore's Honorary Consul-General in Sri Lanka

In response to media queries on the case involving Dr Lalith Kotelawala, Chairman of Sri Lanka's Ceylinco Group and Singapore's Honorary Consul-General in Sri Lanka, the MFA Spokesman said:

"There have been media reports since December 2008 that Dr Lalith Kotelawala has been under investigation for a case involving one of Ceylinco Group's subsidiary companies. We understand that he was detained by the Sri Lankan authorities on 26 February 2009. As the investigations are still ongoing, it would not be appropriate for us to comment on the case. We will continue to monitor the case that is currently before the Sri Lankan courts.

Singaporeans seeking assistance in Sri Lanka on consular matters can continue to do so at Singapore's Consulate-General in Colombo."
