UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Executive Secretary Dr Noeleen Heyzer, called on Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. Dr Heyzer was visiting Singapore for the launch of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2009 at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP). During the call, Dr Heyzer and Minister Yeo exchanged views on developments in the Asia-Pacific within the context of the current global financial and economic crisis and other challenges facing the region. They also discussed ESCAP's efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices and increase food security in the region, with an emphasis on ESCAP's recent work in Myanmar.
