Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng will lead a delegation to Doha, State of Qatar, from 2 to 4 March 2009 to co-chair the Third Qatar-Singapore High-Level Joint Committee Meeting with the Heir Apparent of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Inaugural High-Level Joint Committee Meeting was held in Doha on 9 October 2006, while Singapore hosted the Second High-Level Joint Committee Meeting on 29 October 2007.
The High-Level Joint Committee charts strategic direction for Qatar-Singapore bilateral relations. Singapore's ties with Qatar have deepened and expanded since the inaugural meeting in 2006. Bilateral cooperation encompasses a wide range of areas such as security, labour, health, the environment, finance, trade and investments and culture. At the Third High-Level Joint Committee Meeting, both countries are expected to sign agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of labour, health and urban planning.
DPM Wong will be accompanied by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed; Senior Minister of State for Finance & Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua; Senior Minister of State for Education & Information, Communications and the Arts RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew; Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan and senior officials from various ministries and government agencies.
