MFA Press Statement: Working Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to Washington DC

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who is currently on a working visit to Washington DC, met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, National Security Adviser James Jones, and Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, separately on 27 April 2009.

During these meetings, both sides affirmed the excellent bilateral relationship between Singapore and the US, and discussed ways to further bilateral cooperation. Minister Yeo and Secretary Clinton exchanged views on current developments in East and Southeast Asia, ASEAN, APEC, and international security issues such as piracy.

At the meeting with National Security Adviser James Jones, several issues were discussed including the situation in South and Central Asia, and developments in the region. Minister Yeo's meeting with Senator Kerry touched on foreign policy issues relating to South Asia, Africa as well as developments in the region.
